Hi! I'm 27 years old, I live in the UK. I became anorexic aged 14, also a self harmer. When I was 16 I was admitted into an Eating Disorder Unit where I lived for just over 2 years. I discharged myself from that unit as it wasn't helping my mental state. They have a 'we'll feed you up!' mentality, They punished people with foods there aswell, as I was such a slow eater I would be punished by eating king size mars bars for breakfast luch and tea, when that surprisingly didn't help me they put me onto a diet of deep fried chips for breakfast lunch and tea!!! My self harming became worse and I also became bulimic. when I was 18 I left and was then admitted into an adult psychiatric unit in the local hospital which was hiddious! They had no clue! I managed to leave there aswell. I was given threats of sectioning, which I didn't want so I've had to agree to maintain my weight. I have been quite unwell though since, my heart stopped working properly due to stress put on the heart from the ED. I have now had 4 heart proceedures (operations) called abltion therapy to clsoe up the holes in the heart that pruduce to many electrical currents. I feel quite stressed that I have to be really careful nowdays, I mustn't throw up or get too low or I'll have to have a pacemaker fitted! Not what I want! I have come to this community to offer support and recieve it when I'm having a hard day. I hope to make some good friends through this site. Thats one thing I do miss about being in a unit is the quality of support and friendships you get from other inpatients, people that really understand you!
